How Does Elixir's Glycolic Acid Help Your Skin?

First and foremost, Elixir uses a rare form of glycolic acid that acts as an exfoliant. It helps shed dead skin cells and reveal the newer, brighter layers underneath by acting on the stratum corneum (the outermost layer of skin). “Normal, intact stratum corneum consists of tightly packed layers of dead skin cells that are tightly bonded together," says Howe. "Glycolic acid loosens these bonds.” With their glue dissolved by glycolic acid, those tough, rough layers of dead skin cells can more easily slough away.

 Perfect for a cleanser.

But because glycolic acid is so small, it can get deeper into your skin too, where it does some serious work. “Glycolic acid stimulates fibroblasts in the dermis to produce increased amounts of collagen,” says Howe. And by stimulating collagen production, it helps skin feel firmer and minimizes fine lines and wrinkles. Between the superficial action on your stratum corneum and the work it does below, “your skin will feel smoother and look more radiant and even-toned,

Hyaluronic Acid sounds much scarier than it is and many of us wouldn't dream of putting acid on our faces, however, Hyaluronic Acid is actually a gel-like substance that has the unique ability to retain moisture. In fact, our bodies produce it naturally to help us retain moisture in our skin. It is also found in our eyes, joints, and connective tissue. We produce less and less Hyaluronic Acid as we age and our skin becomes dryer and less elastic as a result, which causes us to develop deep-set wrinkles. This is why it works wonderfully as an anti-aging component in face creams and serums, as the Hyaluronic Acid can hold over 1,000 times its weight in water.

  • Skin hydration - keeps your skin moisturized and radiant
  • Anti-wrinkle properties - due to its capacity to retain large amounts of water, skin stays moisturized and helps to prevent the development of wrinkles, and fills in already present wrinkles to reduce their appearance
  • Healing properties - applying Hyaluronic Acid to wounds has been shown to help with reducing the size of surface wounds on the skin, and aid with pain relief of these areas
  • Antioxidant - helps to keep skin looking healthy
What do Vitamin B3 and b5 do for our skin?

Used in skincare, vitamin B is an antioxidant that helps to treat signs of aging and alleviate sensitive skin. The most common ones found in topical skincare are vitamin B3 (niacinamide), vitamin B5 (pantothenic acid), and vitamin B12 (cobalamin).

“Vitamin B3 reduces inflammation, signs of aging like fine wrinkles and blemishes, and improves the function of the skin's barrier. Vitamin B5 is a humectant that keeps skin moisturized
